At Hummingbird ABA Therapy, we believe in the power of neurodiversity — the beautiful tapestry of human variation that enriches our world. Located in the heart of State College, PA, our practice is committed to providing neurodiversity-affirming Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy that celebrates the unique strengths, perspectives, and abilities of each individual we serve.
Our approach may be different than what some refer to as “traditional ABA”. We practice Neurodiversity Affirming ABA, understanding the needs of our autistic and neurodivergent clients, and working to allow them to learn how to thrive in the world without changing who they are.
Every Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) is personalized and client-centered, with self-advocacy and assent in mind for each goal. At Hummingbird ABA Therapy, we understand that every individual is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. That's why we prioritize personalized intervention plans tailored to the specific needs, preferences, and goals of each client and their family. Our team of skilled professionals collaborates closely with clients and their support networks to design interventions that honor their individuality and promote meaningful progress. Each child works with their own ABA Treatment Team, consisting of an ABA Case Supervisor (a Board Certified Behavior Analyst or Licensed Behavior Consultant), and 1-3 Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) or Asst. Behavior Consultants (ABCs).
Beyond targeting specific behaviors and skills, our approach considers the broader context of each individual's life. We aim to enhance their overall quality of life by fostering independence, social connections, and participation in activities that bring joy and fulfillment. Whether it's learning essential life skills, engaging in recreational activities, or building meaningful relationships, we strive to support our clients in living their best lives. We do not target stimming behavior unless it is harmful to the child or others, as this is a regulation technique that the child has utilized and feels comfortable with. As other skills develop, their stims may naturally switch to other forms of regulating, but we do not force these changes to occur if they are not hurting anyone.
We believe in empowering individuals to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions about their lives. Our BHTs work collaboratively with clients to develop self-awareness, communication skills, and self-advocacy strategies, empowering them to express their needs, preferences, and aspirations confidently. Our goal is not to make a person less autistic, but to give them the skills necessary to be autistic in our world. With a collaborative approach with all-natural supports, our ABA Treatment Teams assist schools, families, and the general community in accepting and understanding how our children thrive.
We are dedicated to fostering a culture of acceptance, inclusion, and celebration of neurodiversity. Through our personalized, client-centered approach, we empower individuals to embrace their unique strengths and talents, leading fulfilling and meaningful lives.
This is really helpful. We love our treatment team
